The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 reviewed, MOVIE HATE featuring Evil Romcom Rivals, and discussing Falling Asleep During Movies

Straight out of the cinema, Laurie and Phil talk The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 with a short spoiler-free review up first, and a longer scene-by-scene breakdown at the end. Was it a fitting end to a much loved series? Is Gale hunkier than Peeta?? MOVIE HATE makes its first appearance as Laurie brings up the classic evil rival love interest character in romcoms, as Phil reminds us of the Owen Wilson good guy helpline. And finally Jude joins in to discuss falling asleep in movies. Phil reckons it’s the sweetest sleep around. What do you think? Get in touch and let us know! Plus a special mention to DavidSamuel for our first on-air email. Thanks for the picture David.

Spectre blow-by-blow review, Rewriting Star Trek Into Darkness & Christopher Nolan’s Loud Film Scores

We re-live Sam Mendes’ box office-smashing Spectre (with SPOILERS!) and decide whether it makes the grade. Is it better than Skyfall? Should Daniel Craig return as James Bond one last time? Phil tells us which thing he would re-write in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek: Into Darkness to transform the franchise, while Laurie keeps mistakenly talking about ‘J. J. Abrahams’. And finally Laurie and Phil disagree over Christopher Nolan’s unique soundtrack and score style in his blockbusting movies. What do you think about it all? Send us your thoughts!

The Martian reviewed, analysing Sicario’s marketing and splitting Finales into 2 parts

We took a long look back at Ridley Scott’s ‘The Martian’, talking about what we loved, and realising what we didn’t love so much now the hype’s died down. Was Matt Damon’s performance Oscar-worthy? And which star performer has Laurie met before? We also looked at some of the marketing for Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Sicario’ and talked about the differences between what the filmmakers want vs the goals of the advertising team. Is Sicario actually about a hitman, as one of the taglines says? And finally, waiting for the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Phil brought up how we’ve come to expect final movies in a series to be split into 2-parts, and whether this is a good thing for movie fans; and Laurie came up with some new ways movie studios might be able to get 2 movie hits out of one story. It’s our first official podcast – let us know what you think!
