We re-live Sam Mendes’ box office-smashing Spectre (with SPOILERS!) and decide whether it makes the grade. Is it better than Skyfall? Should Daniel Craig return as James Bond one last time? Phil tells us which thing he would re-write in J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek: Into Darkness to transform the franchise, while Laurie keeps mistakenly talking about ‘J. J. Abrahams’. And finally Laurie and Phil disagree over Christopher Nolan’s unique soundtrack and score style in his blockbusting movies. What do you think about it all? Send us your thoughts!
We took a long look back at Ridley Scott’s ‘The Martian’, talking about what we loved, and realising what we didn’t love so much now the hype’s died down. Was Matt Damon’s performance Oscar-worthy? And which star performer has Laurie met before? We also looked at some of the marketing for Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Sicario’ and talked about the differences between what the filmmakers want vs the goals of the advertising team. Is Sicario actually about a hitman, as one of the taglines says? And finally, waiting for the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, Phil brought up how we’ve come to expect final movies in a series to be split into 2-parts, and whether this is a good thing for movie fans; and Laurie came up with some new ways movie studios might be able to get 2 movie hits out of one story. It’s our first official podcast – let us know what you think!
