Mark Wahlberg & Will Ferrell pair up again after relative success in ‘The Other Guys’…

This time bringing us a humorous, erm, custody battle?

Brad (Ferrell) is an earnest, ‘uncool’ stepdad who wants nothing more than the love & respect of his stepchildren. He is forced to square off against their biological father; long-haired, leather jacket-wearing and unreliable Dusty (Mark Wahlberg), when he unexpectedly reappears and wants to be a real dad.

It’s what you’d expect – insecure Brad tries desperately to outmanoeuvre Dusty’s easy going charm, with escalating silliness. I felt many scenes pushed hard against the 12A rating, especially a few regarding Brad’s ‘virility’.

The last scene is surprisingly clever & brings out a few good-natured laughs, but overall it’s nothing special; nothing particularly dreadful either. Find it on Amazon Prime or Netflix if you’re feeling up for a brainless, semi-amusing couple of hours.
